Entrepreneurship

The course ENTR 201S consisted of many real-world examples and activities for us to participate in expanding our knowledge of what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. In the first half we learned to accept failure, never give up, adapt to a growth mindset, and build relationships with everyone. In The second half, we learned about figures and the entrepreneurial processes. One project consisted of finding a local entrepreneur and interviewing them, to learn real-world business strategies. Another project, at the end of the semester, consisted of creating a pitch deck of our own unique and realistic start-up business.

I interviewed Tom Gill, owner of Aquawear inc., a local swim company. My paper focuses on how got into the business and what his passions were. He stressed the importance of connections, because in college he did not major in business and had no idea what he was doing financially, but luckily his dad had connections with the banks. Doing this assignment was fun because it helped me further develop my communication and people skills. Below I have attached the link to my paper:

Creating the pitch deck was interesting because it taught me about real figures within a business, such as rent, employee salary, product cost versus sales, etc. I also learned to have a target audience and to be strategic with location, because more businesses fail than they succeed. With that being said, entrepreneurs never give up because they are passionate and failure is only another lesson and opportunity. Below I have attached my proposed business, which I called Dresses Reimagined:

Through this course, I have developed skills such as working in a team dynamic, communicating verbally, creating reports, marketing to others, and analyzing quantitative data. In business, especially creating one, one of the most essential factors is networking and having a team. Everyone is different and has different strengths and weaknesses, starting a business and building it means creating a team that is strong in different ways. It is extremely hard and almost impossible to start a company by yourself, no one knows everything. It is also important to have connections with different people and businesses because although they are not directly a part of yours they still help keep it afloat such as advertising companies, or banks. Creating networks means not only being able to keep in touch via the internet but being able to verbally communicate. Through the business process creating reports on stock and analyzing the sales to determine profit is something that every entrepreneur has to do.

This experience will help me in the Dental field because it taught me how to network and allowed me an opportunity to get in touch with dental offices and internships. It also has allowed me to improve my verbal communication and taught me what my strengths and weaknesses are.
